A record distribution contract brought Guy Blake and Damien Granderson together almost fifteen years ago. He was an in-house attorney for Koch Entertainment. Blake had just left his job as the head of Law and Business Affairs at Warner Chappell to take a position as an associate at Davis Shapiro Lewit & Hayes.
After the aforementioned contract was finalized, the entertainment lawyer became Blake’s coworker at Davis Shapiro. Damien Granderson states that they wanted to work in a truly collaborative way, where clients wouldn’t have just one lawyer but rather a team of lawyers who would offer their expertise in whatever areas would benefit the client’s development.
This was always their plan, as Damien Granderson recalls. He says that their ultimate goal was to create a dynamic legal service for the entertainment industry by bringing together highly competent attorneys from a wide variety of practice areas and specializing in their clients’ entertainment transactional needs in music, film, new media/technology, film, branding, and corporate.
Successful entertainment lawyer Damien Granderson explains that these lawyers could meet other entertainment industries (Instagram).
Blake says they were relieved to see that their customers were satisfied with the service they received and that they had no complaints. The goal of this group was to “maximize the talent in everyone.” As Damien Granderson finally adds, if they can capitalize on their strengths while utilizing their group’s strengths, they will be more effective legislators for their customers.
