Rachel Nichols is an American sports broadcaster. She currently works as a reporter and anchor for ESPN, after previously working for Turner Sports, CBS Sports, and the Washington Post. Nichols has been honored by the Associated Press Sports Editors (APSE) three times and was named National Sportswriter of the Year in 2006.
Rachel Nichols was born on October 18, 1973 in Queens, New York. She is the daughter of Mark and Ann Nichols. Her father was a physical education teacher and her mother was an administrator at a daycare center. Nichols began her career as a newspaper reporter for the Washington Post in 1996. She covered high school sports, colleges, and Major League Baseball. In 2000, she joined ESPN as a reporter for the network’s National Basketball Association (NBA) coverage. Nichols also worked as a sideline reporter for ESPN’s college football and men’s basketball games.
In 2004, Rachel Nichols left ESPN to join Turner Sports, where she served as a studio host and reporter for NBA TV and TNT. She also covered the 2004 Summer Olympics for TNT. In 2006, Nichols returned to ESPN as a reporter and anchor for the network’s news programs SportsCenter and Outside the Lines.
Nichols has been honored by the Associated Press Sports Editors (APSE) three times and was named National Sportswriter of the Year in 2006. In 2010, she was inducted into the APSE Hall of Fame.
