According to Forbes Magazine’s latest survey, Warren is worth an estimated $4 billion, making him one of the richest people in Dallas, if not Texas or America, for that matter. He was born and raised in Oklahoma, where he experienced hard times before becoming a financial giant through hard work and perseverance.
Warren’s father, a farmer, was shot and killed near Nebraska when Kelcy Warren was 8 years old. Kelcy later explained he could turn things around through hard work and perseverance, as he had to depend on his family’s income to support him.
Although young Warren claims to have been illiterate, he later stated in a radio interview that his ambition for a college education led him to take night courses for two years before progressing to Oklahoma State University, where he earned an undergraduate degree. He then continued to the University of Oklahoma, where he completed a Masters’s degree in Petroleum Engineering. From there, he worked for the oil and gas company Phillips Petroleum from 1975 until 1993.
Kelcy Warren is renowned for his controversial statements regarding the environment. In an interview with the Oklahoma Gazette, Warren stated that “I’m not sure we need to drill more. We just need to get better at what we do,” before adding that “environmentalists who opposed oil and gas development were ‘wimps.'”
During his time as a chief engineer for Phillips Petroleum, Warren was responsible for identifying ways to save money on drilling projects by reducing waste and other improvements in efficiency.
