Kelcy Warren grew up in Gladewater, Texas where he learned a lot of his business values from his hardworking father. Kelcy Warren also learned the importance of getting an education from his mother who was always reminding him that he needed to graduate from high school so he could attend college. During his younger years, being a part of a Baptist church was important in his life. He also took part in the boy scouts where his mother was active as a leader.
Kelcy Warren learned early on in his life that it would be important for him to figure out how to earn a decent living. While his parents both worked hard, there was always a need for extra money. By the time he turned 12 years old, he was already working jobs here and there. As he got older, he worked in the oil sector, with welding, and in the telephone industry helping to maintain telephone lines. He eventually went to college but decided to come back to his hometown where he could attend a junior college while working in between.
Kelcy Warren later made the decision to return to the college he had left and applied for a scholarship to help himself out. He won an award for working on a project, and this helped him to believe in himself more than he ever had before. He graduated from college during the latter part of the 1970s with a civil engineering degree and then went to work with a gas company helping to design pipelines. A few years after this, he went to work with Endevco.
Kelcy Warren eventually took over at Endevco but decided to change its name to Cornerstone Natural Gas. Some years later, he sold the company before going on to co-found Energy Transfer Partners. He later became the chairman of this endeavor and has been able to have a big impact on the company in this position.
