IM Academy is an online school for game design, programming, and more. With the most extensive library of interactive tutorials and a focus on making education affordable and accessible, IM Academy has become one of the world’s leading providers of internet-based classes.
The school has two main divisions: online and live divisions. The online division’s classes run entirely over the internet in intervals determined by the students for either 1–3 months or 12 weeks. The live division holds classes at IM Campus in New York City from Thursdays through Sundays.
The online division is where most students take classes. Instructors run the classes online on IM Academy’s proprietary software, the Learning Management System (LMS). This LMS is a course-creation tool allowing instructors to use video, audio, text, and images to present lectures and communicate with their students. Classes are recorded and can be viewed at any time by the student via the LMS.
Classes are scheduled in intervals of one month or three months each, depending on the subject matter. Students can view their schedule on the LMS and choose when to register for a course. Instructors can access the students’ online presence via a private IM chat room and an email inbox, with which they can communicate daily. Instructors can also upload materials directly to their students’ websites using the LMS.
IM Academy has expanded its live classes for adults and children, with an increasing focus on podcasts to bring courses to students who cannot physically attend IM Campus in New York City.
Instructors can create their monthly subscription plan for their classes, where they can make the schedule and choose to allow each student a maximum of 5 hours per week for themselves. Instructors can also set up each student’s customized email inbox and a private chat room.
IM instructors are in various parts of the world, including Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark, Germany, India, Japan, and Russia.
The school offers an online catalog of courses where students can learn from a selection of classes taught by instructors worldwide. All downloadable material available for purchase on IM Academy is in the public domain and free for students to use.
