Former NFL Quarterback and Philanthropist Wants to Strengthen Families

NFL quarterback Ben Roethlisberger focuses a lot on football, but the former Pittsburgh Steeler quarterback cares about helping the homeless and children.

The NeoLight Campaign

With his wife, Ashley, Roethlisberger became involved in the NeoLight philanthropy, a campaign to help newborns who develop jaundice. The NeoLight company’s charitable division donates its phototherapy lights to hospitals and other medical centers to provide them to parents of infants who develop jaundice. As parents of three children, Roethlisberger know the uncertainty felt around becoming a parent and pledged their support to the NeoLight campaign in 2020.

The DIFFERENT Campaign

Although most football fans recall Ben Roethlisberger as the youngest quarterback to lead a team to a Super Bowl win, which he did at 23 years of age, in his final year of NFL play in 2021, he partnered with gospel signer Micah Tyler to feed the homeless. The pair had met after a football game and, as mutual fans of one another’s work, looked for a way to partner. It became the DIFFERENT campaign, a t-shirt sale that raised money for the Light of Life Rescue Mission in Pittsburgh, PA. The mission provides daily meals for the city’s homeless.

Founding the Roethlisberger Family Foundation

Besides partnering on the NeoLight Campaign, Ben and Ashley founded a philanthropy together. The Roethlisberger Family Foundation provides free resources for parents and children to build stronger families.

A Football Legacy

Although NFL quarterback Ben Roethlisberger built a football legacy in his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Ohio native wants to establish another legacy for himself – one in philanthropy. He continually looks for ways to help others and offers his name, career experience, and leadership to worthwhile charitable endeavors. Instead of memorizing his passing stats, Roethlisberger hopes to pass on his faith and focus to his children.
