Senator McCain has gone on record for saying that he feels Donald Trump’s remarks calling fellow senator Elizabeth Warren “Pocahontas” crossed the line and offended Native American veterans. He said that our nation owes a huge amount of gratitude to the Navajo Code Talkers and President Trump should not have politicized it in the manner he did.

Donald Trump called Senator Warren “Pocahontas” at the event honoring Native American veterans on November 28th. Ever since he began running for the highest office in the land, Donald Trump has taken jabs at Senator Warren for claiming Native American ancestry.

The jabs did not start in earnest until after he was nominated. When he knew Hillary Clinton was going to be his opponent, he began calling her out as well, calling her “crooked Hillary.” Of course, when it was mentioned that Hillary was considering Elizabeth Warren for a running mate, that is when Trump began calling her “Pocahontas.”

Although it has been largely ambiguous whether Warren has Native American heritage or not, Trump seemed to relish the opportunity to attack both of them had Hillary went with her as a vice presidential pick. She went with Tim Kaine instead.

McCain is actually in fairly familiar territory with his clash with the president. He has gone on record for disagreeing with Donald Trump about whether transgendered individuals should be in the military. McCain is a veteran himself, and was most famous for being a prisoner of war during Vietnam.
