Native American culture is a very big part of our history in America. In our modern world, it can be difficult to remember just how beautiful and sacred the Native American culture is. Dixie State has recently celebrated the beauty of the Native American culture with a Miss Native pageant. There were three beautiful Dixie State Native American women who competed on stage for the title of Miss Native. Dixie Sun News reported that this pageant is mostly each native bringing out their specific culture and sharing it with the audience.
Singing songs in their own language was a great way to show the audience of over 100 just how beautiful each dialect sounds. The art of translating each culture on stage into something that non-natives can understand is a big factor that goes into judging the contestants. It is very difficult to show non-natives what is so important about a certain culture. For the contestants themselves, being a part of this pageant is a great way for them to learn more about their own culture. Pageants like these will help to keep the sacred Native American culture alive and thriving.
One important part of this pageant is also the confidence which this gives the pageant contestants. This teaches them to stand up for their culture and be proud of who they are and where they came from.
